GW620 integrates a number of features, but the user interface is not slick enough compared to its peers HIGH-ENDAndroid phones cost as much as a 16GB iPhone 3GS,if you factor in the cost of the MicroSD storage. The real action,in my view,is in cheaper Android handsets ones that replicate the best parts of the iPhone experience. As of now, there are 10 Android phones available in India. The LG GW620 is up against the HTC Tattoo and the Samsung Spica. The GW620 is LGs first Android phone. It sports a 3-inch,320 x 480 pixel TFT display. The resistive touchscreen is not as large,or as responsive as an iPhone, but functional, and augmented by a slideout keyboard. It has a 5-line slide-out QWERTY keypad with shortcut keys that can be used for input in landscape mode.Unlike most spartan touch phones, the GW620 is packed with buttons on the side,a power button on top that is used to turn the screen off, volume controls on the left,a camera and a music player buttton on the right. The SD cards are hot-swappable you can switch memory cards without removing the batteries. It also has connectors like the standard 3.5 mm audio jack and a microUSB port. The wireless connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0. It also has a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, and supports face-tracking and smile detection in its software.I was amazed by the quality of the pictures after transferring them to the PC.While there was a bit of a blur on some shots taken indoors, photos that I had taken in broad daylight and outdoors were very clear and sharp, comparable to the kind of image quality you would get on a compact digital camera. The GW620 can also record QVGA 320x240.The videos are saved in 3GP format at 30 FPS. Music and movies can be copied directly on to the MicroSD card there is no need for any proprietary software or OS.If you turn on the mass storage mode in your phone settings, you will be able to copy files in any operating system. The file format support is competent, but not extensive it can play DivX and MP4 videos,MP3 and WAV format music. The GW620 integrates a great number of features, but the user interface is not slick or responsive. At times, the menu speeds can get pretty slow and erratic, especially if you dont have much free memory. In terms of user experience,I havent had the best of times with it.The LG GW620 has 150 MB of internal memory, the lowest among its midrange contemporaries, the Spica has 180 MB,while the Tattoo has 256 MB.If you wanted to invest in an Android phone, the GW 620 is hard to root for as it has little scope for a version upgrade to the operating system. In comparison, the Samsung Spica has received the Android 2.1 update in the West, and the software update is expected to roll out in Asia and India as well.Still,if you wanted an Android phone with a full QWERTY keypad, this is more affordable than the Motorola Milestone, but you will have to suffer slow interface speeds and a resistive screen on top of Android 1.5.That just seems to be too much of a compromise at this point.
